FAQ: Amenities

Is there air conditioning?

Smith East, Smith West, and Stuyvesant Hall are equipped with air conditioning. Bashford, Thomson, Welch, and Hayes Halls are not air-conditioned.

Can I hook up my computer in my residence hall room?

Yes. The entire campus is wireless, including the residential side. You can log onto the wireless network BISHOPNET using your OWU email username and password. Each residence hall room is still equipped with network access if you wish to use a landline.

Are the residence halls wired for cable TV?

Yes. Ohio Wesleyan subscribes to a basic cable service, including HBO (but no other premium channels). If you would like to bring a TV for your room, each room has a cable-ready hook-up. You must also provide your own cable cord. The cost of cable is included in your housing fees.

Is there a telephone in my room?

No. Students need to supply their own landline phone if they wish to have one. Each room has an assigned phone number. A charge for basic service is included in the housing fees.

What laundry facilities are available?

Each residence hall has a laundry room, usually located on the ground floor of the building. There is no extra charge to use the laundry facilities! The University assumes no responsibility for any damage which might occur to students’ belongings as a result of use of laundry machines. Ironing boards are located in each residence hall. Irons are not provided.

Can I bring my own loft?

You may construct your own loft to elevate your bed and provide storage underneath, however there are rules and regulations that will be adhered to concerning the construction, use and disassembly of lofts in residence halls and Small Living Units. Please refer to the section of the OWU Student Handbook—“Policies Governing Residential Life, #14: Lofts”—for specific rules and regulations concerning loft construction.
